Jackson Furs specialize in quality repairs to all furs and most leather garments.  Let us advise you on the revitalizing and renewal of your treasured fur garment.  It’s a fact of life that tears can occur particularly in older garments. Rugs which are on floors often receive inadvertent tough treatment and require strengthening and repair.  Any fur, as it ages can become subject to tearing as it dries somewhat without ideal cold storage.  The dedicated fur repair technique to close and reinforce an opening, stands you in good stead if we assess the garment won’t continue to let you down. Ever heard ’a stitch in time saves nine?’ Having a repair done sooner rather than later will save it going further.

REPAIRS

One of the most important aspects of owning a fur is having it valued for insurance purposes.  Recognized by the Fur Council of Australia, our valuation certificates are accepted by all major insurance companies and are in line with the current new world prices of all skins.  We will provide an honest and realistic appraisal to assist with the true value and integrity of care of your garment.  This service may include some work to investigate the inside making of the garment, bringing the garment up to replaceable condition, the assembly of the description for the certificate and digital photos.  Contact us first to arrange the garment to come in for the valuation process to begin.  The valuation certificate and replacement value issued are purely for insurance purposes of replacement.

VALUATION

Made to order fur items form a part of Jackson Furs commitment to customer service.  Whether it’s a custom fit collar to attach to a blazer, or a man’s lapin vest to fit inside a leather jacket, or a full length mink coat, our furrier is on hand to discuss your individual needs.  Years of training ensure you receive the right advice and the right fit for your new order.  Firstly the pattern piece for your requirements must be determined.  Then you will choose the finish & colour according to what you have in mind. Mink is tailored, rabbit is casual & fox is a romantic classic for example. Others are available upon request. Replacement for an insured item can be quoted on with or without photos or descriptions when disaster strikes and a fur is lost. Advise your insurer to contact us.

CUSTOM FUR TAILORING

Cold storage for all furs is essential to ensure longevity of the skins.  In the heat of Australia, every summer a fur is exposed to means a shorter life expectancy for the pelts.  A constant low temperature protecting your fur investment will ensure it will be ready to wear when you are ready to use it.  Stored in an insect free environment in secured premises guarantees your fur will receive the best possible care at all times with ventilated, covered hanging space, after being cleaned. A secure identification process allows only the nominated persons to collect it.  No plastic is used near the furs.

 Our refrigeration system is checked and serviced every 12 months with a recent overhaul and update having taken place in 2007.

HIRE

Whether you need a little fur for a little bit or a longer fur for a longer time, we may help with new or vintage stock to suit your needs. We hire for single events or for longer periods of time like overseas vacations to freezing climates.

Furs for brides & bridesmaids, evening formals, fashions on the field race days, graduations or opera in the vineyards, we have furs for hire to give the right look and complete your ensemble.  We also hire for photographic sessions as promotion for special events or shows.  Our garments for hire are quite extensive, call or email your requirements and for prices.

REMODELLING & ALTERATION

Our furrier can advise you on how to remodel your vintage fur into a current accessory or style.  Our exclusive and experienced service are second to none and you’ll be amazed with what can be achieved with your garment.  We have created rugs, teddy bears, hats, collars and cuffs, all from remodelling an existing fur.  If it’s size that has become the problem, we create short jackets from long & add some in or  smaller jackets from long large coats, stoles from jackets, and recycle it into a piece that fits you.

There are 2 methods to clean fur.  1 is the dry cleaning method, through the usual type of process but done more gently.  The 2nd method is to use an old fashioned remedy by hand.  This is particularly recommended for vintage fur or if the life history of the fur is unknown.  Once cleaned, the lining which may need removal & re sewing in, is pressed and the fur fluffed.  It’s top finished with spray and a combing and  dried.  Length of time taken depends on size of garment, however this is not a quick process and the more time it can be given, usually the more successful a result. However the adage that a spill be attended to as soon as possible after the event, remains true. Rugs will also be given individual care.

Nearly the same as a valuation, this assessment process is mainly for those who have to identify what they have or considering re sale of the piece.  Very often a fur piece comes to you from a bequeath or might be purchased second hand, and labels are not in place to advise the fur identity.  Similarly, those wishing to sell a vintage fur may take this option to obtain an assessment to display to the buyer that a furrier has identified various items and a re sale figure or the fur’s accepted second hand price in the current market. The assessment is on Jackson letterhead with complete information regarding the condition and description.  The fur must come to us for this service.

CLEANING

MOTH / SILVERFISH DAMAGE

Moth & silverfish love fur too, and in a warm, undisturbed dark wardrobe at home, they will have your fur for dinner. Evidence will be moths flying out when disturbed, or silverfish running, and also closer inspection will produce moth cases-this is the new moth production, gritty dirt-this is the droppings, and worst of all-fur coming out as you touch the garment.  Prevention being better than cure, a check every 6 months is essential in our climate. Purchase of fur crystals we sell will deter and kill insects which invade fur/wool/silk/cotton and even chew through polyesters, as varying Australian weather delivers humidity/salt air/extreme heat/dry conditions but the premium solution we offer is the stability of cold storage. No insects and the right temperature. 

Work can usually be done to remedy some damage insects caused and we offer a quarantine, fumigation & pelt repair service.

DELIVERY/COURIER

Whether you need to transport your fur to or from us locally or across the world, we have methods in place to assure you of the security and safety of the garment’s arrival.

Locally, we will transport the fur ourselves.  Intra and interstate requires registered post or the introduction of  carriers we use for any goods transport, licensed domestic wide.  Internationally we use FedEx.  A quote can be made available for any location. Alternatively, if your furs are being transported to us, you can obtain a quote from a courier at your locale.
